The ellipse is a very interesting conic section. Most students, if given the equation of an ellipse, could graph the ellipse by simplifying the equation into a form that they could plug in a value for x and get the corresponding y-value. However, many students probably could not draw the ellipse if just given the focal constant and the locations of the two foci, or if given a circle with center O and point F inside the circle, where O and F are the foci of an ellipse. These are two alternate ways of looking at ellipses.
